Terry Teegee is a leader who consistently brings practical solutions to the table and he is gifted in bringing diverse views and perspectives together. I was impressed with how he pushed for and participated in the Missing and Murdered Women and Girls Commission. He was also a strong advocate for the 231 Calls to Justice and for the Highway of Tears report recommendations particularly the necessity for safe transportation. Terry continues to be the kind of leader that the BCAFN needs and I had no hesitation in nominating him for a second term as Regional Chief.
My name is Otis Guicho Sr. I am the chief of the Tŝideldel First Nation which is one of the six communities of the Tŝilhqot'in Nation. It is a pleasure to work with Terry on many different important high-level initiatives. Therefore, I am happy to support his work in becoming the Regional Chief to continue to advocate for First Nations across BC. Terry brings a strong voice, a fresh and genuine approach to connecting people of different backgrounds and experiences. Terry never loses sight of our collective goals while respecting each nation's culture and governance. It is because of his open nature, ability to listen with respect and his gift of bringing many voices to the forefront, that I was pleased to nominate Terry Teegee for re-election as Regional Chief for the BC AFN.
Terry's experience in Natural Resources Management has been a great asset for First Nations across British Columbia. From his time working as Takla's Forester, to his political role as the Tribal Chief of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC), and then onto his role as Regional Chief of BC Assembly of First Nations, Terry's natural leadership developed results. Terry led the discussion on a new Provincial Environmental Assessment Act that is more inclusive of First Nations concerns and has the recognition of First Nations to develop their own EA Review. Terry has also led the CSTC to the groundbreaking Collaboration and Pathways Agreements which provided more resources and better ways to engage First Nations. Terry continues his results-based leadership as Co-Chair of the Forestry Subcommittee which is in discussions on having more inclusive policy for First Nations in the Forestry Sector. As a member of Takla Nation, I'm pleased to endorse and support one of our own in his campaign to be elected to a second term as BCAFN Regional Chief.
In times of uncertainty we need to stay steady in leadership. And we need a leader with a proven ability to bring people together and to tackle the unforeseen difficulties ahead. Terry Teegee is that leader. He champions solutions for the challenges of our rural and remote Nations such as inadequate transportation and lack of safe drinking water. I’m also impressed with his background in the natural resources sector as its an important economic driver in our region. For these reasons I support his bid for a second term as Chief of the BC AFN.
Chief Terry Teegee has demonstrated exemplary leadership across the term under extenuating circumstances.
Teegee's leadership across multiple portfolios has been welcomed both regionally and nationally as he provided a strong unwavering voice for the advancement of Indigenous rights, our communities, and our economy. I am proud to support Chief Teegee in his seeking the role of BCAFN Chief in this upcoming election.
Terry Teegee has the experience we need as Regional Chief to move forward in these uncertain times. I believe Terry understands both the challenges and the opportunities facing our Nations. I am confident in his leadership and I am pleased to support him in his re-election for Regional Chief of the BCAFN.
Terry is a strong leader, attentive to his family and deeply embedded in his culture which is one of the pillars within his leadership style. He is a statesman and ambassador of ethics, integrity and vision. Wishing you the very best in the upcoming election Terry.
